This year, December 28th is the Feast of the Holy Family or Holy Family Sunday, also known as the Fourth Day within the Octave of the Nativity of the Lord or Octave of Christmas. The Feast of the Holy Family is a movable feast, celebrated in the Roman Catholic and Coptic Churches and in many Protestant Anglican and Lutheran churches. The celebration emphasizes Jesus, Mary, and Joseph as a model of family virtue, faith, and love, promoting family unity and devotion to God, and presenting the Holy Family as the model and exemplar of all Christian families. George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) was a German-British Baroque composer. His most famous work, the 1742 oratorio Messiah with its "Hallelujah" chorus, is among the most popular works in choral music. The text from Messiah was compiled from the King James Bible and the Book of Common Prayer. Saint Nicholas was an early Christian bishop of Greek descent from the maritime city of Myra in modern-day Turkey during the time of the Roman Empire. His legendary habit of secret gift-giving gave rise to the traditional model of Saint Nick, better known as Santa Claus. Little is known about the historical Saint Nicholas.
