Septuagint
The Torah is known as the Pentateuch or the Five Books of Moses by Christians and was extensively used by the Gospel writers. The term Septuagint, meaning “seventy,” actually refers to the seventy-two translators—six from each tribe of Israel—involved in translating the Torah during the Second Temple period, in the third century BC.
