259. Northeast Algonquians

The Wampanoag were part of a larger group of North American Indians known as the Algonquian. They, and many of the other native peoples in New England, spoke a language belonging to the Algonquian language family and is most closely related to those spoken by the Mohican. Algonquian is thus the name of the cultural linguistic group that includes many “tribes”, of which the Algonquins are one. Eric Yanis of The Other States of America podcast reconstructs Wampanoag society prior to the arrival of Europeans on the continent.
